Garnduwa Announces Leadership Transition
Garnduwa Amboorny Wirnan Aboriginal Corporation has announced a leadership transition, with Josepha Howard stepping into the role of Acting Chief Executive Officer.
After more than 23 years of service, Mick Albert has concluded his time in the CEO role. Across more than two decades, Mick has played a defining role in shaping Garnduwa into the strong, Aboriginal-led organisation it is today. His leadership helped build an organisation grounded in culture, guided by community, and committed to creating opportunities for children, families and communities right across the Kimberley.
Mick’s legacy lives on through Garnduwa’s people, programs and partnerships. From strengthening governance and growing local leadership, to championing culturally safe sport and recreation in some of the most remote parts of the country, his contribution has left a lasting mark that will continue to guide Garnduwa’s work for generations to come.
As Garnduwa looks ahead, Josepha Howard’s appointment ensures continuity and stability. Josepha brings deep organisational knowledge, trusted relationships across the Kimberley, and a clear commitment to Garnduwa’s purpose.
“Our purpose remains unchanged,” Josepha said. “Garnduwa exists to support strong, healthy and active Aboriginal communities, and that work continues every day, in every place we operate.”
The transition comes at a time of growth and reflection for the organisation, with a focus on strengthening internal systems, supporting staff wellbeing and planning confidently for the years ahead.
“This is about continuity and care,” Josepha said. “We will keep listening to community, backing our staff, and working alongside our partners to deliver meaningful outcomes for Kimberley families.”
Garnduwa’s programs and commitments remain unaffected, and the organisation looks forward to continuing to work closely with communities, partners and stakeholders across the Kimberley.
Please note: Garnduwa’s office will be closed for the Christmas period from Friday 19 December, reopening on Monday 5 January 2026.
