Deadly Diva Day strengthening the capacity of young women in the Kimberley.

Garnduwa recently held a successful Deadly Diva Day in Fitzroy Crossing, with more than 20 girls in attendance.

The Deadly Diva Day aims to encourage participation in sport and recreational activities and promote positive mental and physical health messages.

It aims to inspire young women to assess the benefits of good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle, to encourage positive self-esteem, and to introduce various support agencies and services available to access.

Our staff facilitated a physical footy activity, Nindilingarri Cultural Health Services ran a health and nutrition session, we had a jewelry-making session making power beads, and our local women also ran a bush medicine workshop.

This event also assisted the identification of potential future leaders across the region. Deadly Diva Day has proven itself very successful in engaging and strengthening the capacity of young women and continues to gain a vast amount of support from schools, local agencies, and service providers.

Thank you everyone for an excellent day! Next year will be even bigger and better.

We’d also like to recognize our Community Partner Jean Hailes for Women’s Health and their initiative Women’s Health Week. Our Deadly Diva Day’s are registered events for Women’s Health Week which occurred during 6-10 September 2021. For more information visit the website: https://www.womenshealthweek.com.au
