active leaders

Cultural and educational programs for the Kimberley’s future leaders, developing the domains of social and emotional wellbeing.

why leadership development?

Leadership development can produce a range of outcomes for Indigenous participants. Participating in Aboriginal-led and culturally safe activities can improve social and emotional wellbeing, and physical health and build self-esteem and cultural identity. The long-term impacts of continued engagement in leadership development can be life-changing, with positive education and employment outcomes.

Of critical importance in Aboriginal youth leadership development is the focus on culture, community, country and spirituality. Increasing knowledge, understanding and connection to these domains ensures that participants are developing their social, emotional and spiritual health in line with Aboriginal conceptions and experiences of health.

Our Active Leaders program is embedded within all of our programming, with leadership being a significant focus of our regular engagement. The program also features Young Men’s Day and Deadly Diva Days, which travel throughout the Kimberley offering a full day of leadership, sport, and health-related activities.

Activities within the program are designed to engage youth in culturally meaningful exercises. We also challenge our participants with physical activities and problem-solving situations that require resilience, leadership, communication, and cooperation skills. We believe our Leadership program offers young people the opportunity to develop themselves through value-adding experiences that will deliver enhanced prospects for employment, education and community.
