Junior Basketball Carnival, Broome
An awesome collaborative event from Broome Basketball Association Broome PCYC Basketball Kimberley Inc Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Kimberley and Garnduwa for the school holidays at Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre.
All day the kids played various competitions from U/13 - U/18. Basketball Kimberley ran 3x3 Streetball, Broome Circle and Helping Minds ran arts and crafts and BRAMS have been handing out freebies.
For the girls, we had a 3x3 streetball championship and an ‘Aussie Hoops Come and Try’ session.
There were multiple skills and drills sessions, with a peer group education session also coordinated by Basketball Kimberley. The Broome High Performance Squad were coupled up with the little ones to teach them how to use the stop, think and go method and play some hoop ball. This was about developing our young ones to be leaders in sport and to engage with each other.
The second day of the Junior Carnival was all about Finals! With an early start, the little ones were kept occupied by Basketball Kimberley while the older teams kicked off.
The Grand Finals for the U13's, 15s & 18s were won by Bad Boys, Jnr Wizards and the Greenbacks by only 2 points in a neck and neck game!
Garnduwa would like to thank local basketball legends Phillip Matsumoto and Eric Cox for coming to present the awards, as well as Kumin Sahanna from Nirrumbuk.
What a big two days! Congratulations to all the teams who got themselves organised to compete and the coaches, family and friends that came down to show support.
After such a great 2 days we are looking forward to the upcoming Senior Bball Carnival October 25-27, find the link to register on our homepage.
