Game Changers DERBY

In Derby, our Active Communities Coordinator Fiona has been working hard to support the delivery of a number of ongoing programs in Looma and MOwanjum. As the footy season came to an end, the Mowanjum Lady Hawks were invited to participated in the Game Changers Lite Program with Derby Aboriginal Health Service and Kimberley Mental Health. The Game Changers program uses football as a vehicle to talk to women and girls about their mental health. The first session was facilitated by Fiona and covered regulating emotions and how to remain levelheaded when life can be tough.

On the 18th of September, all participants were awarded their Aboriginal Mental Health First Aid, and the following week were introduced to the Deadly Thinking workshops. Keeping girls engaged after the footy season can be challenging and Fiona has done a wonderful job helping to coordinate this program that thinks outside the box and supports girls to upskill and look after their mental health.

On the 11th of October the girls are heading out to Willare to practise with some older women to practise culture together on country.
