As part of its Smarter than Smoking Active Community Program, Garnduwa hosted Athletics WA coach, Lindsay Bunn, national soccer player and AFL state footballer, Susan Makur Chuot, and junior state sprinter, Asad Hosseini. Lindsay, Susan, and Asad presented at workshops held in Fitzroy Crossing, Yiyili, Wangkatjungka, Yakanarra, and Noonkanbah during June.

“Lindsay, Susan and Asad were amazed at the outstanding natural talent of our Kimberley kids,” said Chaz Garnett, Fitzroy Valley Garnduwa manager. “Lindsay is excited by what he’s seen and is committed to helping develop access to appropriate professional coaching and pathways for aspiring young athletes,” continued Chaz. They were so impressed with the talent, people and country of the Kimberley that they plan to return for the Fitzroy Valley Athletics Carnival in August. Also on board will be Susan’s elder brother, Mangar, who is the current senior Western Australian 200 m sprint champion. The kids responded well to the style and delivery by these young champions. Everyone in the Fitzroy Valley is looking forward to their next workshop tour.
