The Gl8dies Netball Club in Derby has been a part of the Derby Netball Association and a major contributor to junior netball in the Derby region for close to ten years. This is the second year that they have been running a competition named after the Club between Derby District High School and Holy Rosary Catholic School.

The competition is a best of three format and is played between the girls from years five and six from each school during term 2. The first round was held on the 5th of May and it was agreed that they be treated as a round of scratch matches as both schools just had to get a feel for the competition particularly with so many new players to the sport. Students were encouraged to give it their best and though no scores were kept the best team players were adjudged.

Round One Most Valuable Players were:

Holy Rosary Catholic School – Miranda Daisy-Brooking and Jasmin Vanvugt

Derby District High School – Tia-Rae Charles and Louise Cross

The second round held on 26th of May was more structured and both schools performed well. Students quickly learnt that school pride was on the line so a competitive game was on the cards. The game was played with a lot of intensity but at the final buzzer Holy Rosary with 3 defeated Derby District High School with 2.

Round Two Most Valuable Players were:

Holy Rosary Catholic School – Kezia Geza and Mattison Atkinson

Derby District High School – Tia-Rae Charles and Aleerah Ozies

Event Coordinator Jacinta Brooker from Derby District High School said, ” I’m keen to see that Netball is alive in Derby and the third round of fixtures should see the Derby District High School team try even harder to even the score”.
