Kununurra St Joseph’s and Wyndham St Joseph’s students after the Netball Competition

During June there was a battle royal between the East Kimberley St Joseph’s Schools on the netball court when St Joseph’s Wyndham travelled to Kununurra to play against two St Joseph’s Kununurra teams. The competition was fierce between the primary school girls and they all had some extremely close and exciting games. There was some tight defence work from the teams but it was the Kununurra Yellow’s dynamic duo of Dakota Curtin (goal attack) and Micky May (goal scorer) with their outstanding sharp shooting skills which led their team to remain undefeated throughout the qualifying rounds. Kununurra White proved just too strong for the Wyndham team to set up a local derby in the Grand Final.

The Grand Final was an epic battle with the teams going goal for goal throughout the game and at half time the scores were level at 8 goals each. Both teams went into the third quarter full of enthusiasm knowing the game was up for grabs. It was only in the final few minutes that St Joseph’s Kununurra Yellow were able to score from some quick turnovers and go ahead of Kununurra White. At the final siren Kununurra Yellow won by just two points maintaining their unbeaten run and becoming the Smarter than Smoking East Kimberley Netball Champions for 2015.

Despite the small three team competition all players worked hard on the court with quick passes and great footwork to ensure a successful and enjoyable day. Special thanks is extended to Healthway for their continued support of this event.
