Winners of the men’s championship for King of the Kimberley Junior Basketball Carnival-The Warmun Warriors

The annual King of the Kimberley Junior Basketball Carnival was a huge success with teams from Kununurra, Warmun, Billiluna and Halls Creek competing. The King of the Kimberley brought together the East Kimberley’s top under 17 boys and girls to display their dribbling and shooting skills as their teams came out in top form for a great competition. The games were fast paced. Teams had to be on the ball from the beginning of each game because this tournament is designed with games with short 10 minute halves.

The girls’ division did not disappoint with their full on play. The Halls Creek Pacers and Kununurra Girls gave it their all but the more experienced Warmun Sonics and Halls Creek Hornets topped the division to meet in the grand final. The grand final was a tight affair with the teams going in to the half time break with Warmun up by only 1 point, but the Warmun Sonics stepped it up in the second half to run away with the game. They became the Girls under 17 Basketball Champions 2015 with an 18 to 7 win.

In the boys’ division the Warmun Warriors, Halls Creek Young Stars, Kununurra And 1, Halls Creek Timberwolves and Billiluna Outlaws brought their best competition. All the games were great competition with the scores staying close as they all moved at a fast pace. The boys kept the vocal crowd entertained on the first day of competition. Once the dust settled after all the preliminary games the Warmun Warriors and the Halls Creek Timberwolves were the two teams left standing to meet in the Grand Final. There was a 4 point spread at half time but like the girls, the Warmun Warriors came out from the half firing on all cylinders and ran away with the game winning 27 to 13.

The weekend ended with a double win for the Turkey Creek teams as they took the Junior King of the Kimberley boys and girls titles back to Warmun for 2015.
