Peninsula kids were treated to a fun start to their school holidays when Save the Children and Garnduwa teammed up to deliver an exciting Smarter than Smoking Active Community holiday program. Save the Children transported the kids from each community and supplied the kids with a healthy morning tea and lunch each day.

The holiday fun began on Day One in Djarindijin with an Easter Fun Day which had the kids involved with all sorts of team games such as egg and spoon races, sack races, relay races, egg leader egg and finished off the day with a huge Easter Egg Hunt. The day ran really smoothly with everyone enjoying themselves and getting into the Easter spirit.

The kids were brought together for Day Two of the program in Beagle Bay. It was another day of making new friends and being active during their school holidays. “Sports of All Sorts” was the name for the day. We included some different sports that kids do not always get to play including tee-ball, soccer and scooter races. Then for the wind up for the day everyone enjoyed a game of basketball. Youth Justice and Alive and Kicking Goals staff members joined in on the fun when they came out to assist with the programs.

Day Three was our “Fun at the Beach Sun Awareness Day” which was held at One Arm Point community where hats, sunscreen and shirts were the order of the day. The kids were active the whole day with a variety of beach activities which included hunting, swimming, beach cricket and volleyball and damper making. What an incredible week with great kids working and playing together making new friends and great memories.
