The 2014 East Kimberley Sports Awards were held recently in Kununurra with Garnduwa’s Smarter than Smoking Active Community Coordinator, Deon Cox, receiving the Service to Sport Award for his continuous effort and commitment to sports in Kununurra and surrounding communities. Deon was recognised for his dedication to and expertise in organising Junior Football, Community Basketball and various other sports and activities, especially with the youth from within and around Kununurra. Bronwyn Tillet was awarded Volunteer of the Year for her dedication to the Netball Association. David Cox received the award for Official of the Year whilst Rugby League took home the award for Club of the Year. Brodie Robertson was named Junior Sports Person of the Year for his excellence in the equestrian field and Kurt Hunter was the Senior Sports Person of the Year based on his skills and ability in football. Congratulations goes out to all those who contribute to making sports a priority in Kununurra and its neighbouring communities.
