Basketball WA Visit Gives Huge Boost to Kimberley Referees
Garnduwa, in partnership with Broome Basketball Association, Basketball WA and the Department of Sport and Recreation organised the first Level 0 Officiating courses to be held throughout the Kimberley over a two week period in July. The first course was held in Broome and was delivered by Jess Byrnes, a State League Referee for Basketball WA. There were 20 students and school staff from Broome and other visiting schools who participated in the course. We were impressed by the number of participants and their interest in learning all they could about officiating.
The following week the East Kimberley was fortunate to have Jess spend two days visiting Kununurra, Warmun and Halls Creek to deliver the Level 0 Officiating course to the members of these communities. The course was very well received with 30 participants becoming qualified to referee basketball at a community level. Hopefully the course has injected more interest and enthusiasm in officiating and we look forward to seeing some great referees at our local competitions. A huge congratulations goes out to all those who participated in the course and successfully gained their certificates in Level 0 Officiating.
