Aspiring athletes honing their sprint skills at One Arm Point

In anticipation of the Smarter than Smoking Kullarri Remote Communities Interschool Athletics Carnival which was held in Bidyadanga, Garnduwa organised for Athletics WA’s elite coach Lindsay Bunn, along with his Perth based athletes, Jordan and Krystal, to travel to the remote community schools around Broome to deliver a series of clinics.

Lindsay and his team spent three days visiting the Peninsula communities and Bidyadanga where they delivered sessions on how to sprint and perform the long jump. They also spoke to the local coaches about training tips and shared with them the idea that a key to success that the coaches should focus on with their students is developing solid sprinting and jumping techniques. Lindsay has identified that there is real talent in this region and has teamed up with Garnduwa to raise the profile of athletics in the communities. They are working to assist in the training and support of local people interested in the opportunity to become athletic coaches.

The staff and students who had the opportunity to work with Lindsay and his team really enjoyed the experience of having high quality athletes visit their school and teach them about sprinting and jumping. Garnduwa would like to thank Lindsay and his team for working with us and giving the Kullarri communities this awesome opportunity. The kids put their skills to good use at the Smarter than Smoking Kullarri Remote Communities Interschool Athletics Carnival that was held at La Grange Remote Community School on the 21st August 2014.
