2018 Kimberley Spirit Football Academy - Coaching Appointments
The Kimberley Spirit Football Academy has seen several quality WAFL/AFL players go through it's programs and this is set to continue in 2018 with multiple new coaches joining the team.
Kimberley Spirit U/19's Head Coach - Clint Ernst
The U/19's program has received a boost with Clint Ernst being appointed the Head Coach for 2018. Clint's role will involve leading the 2018 Kimberley Spirit U/19's team in the KRSP Cup Camp which will take place in Kununurra from March 2 to March 5. Other responsibilities also include identifying talented players across the 2018 season in local competitions, Kimberley Colts Championships (June 2 - 4) and the Kimberley Spirit U/16's Carnival (September 15 - 16).
Clint has a wealth of football experience which includes:
- Played football for East Perth FC in the WAFL.
- East Perth FC Colts Head Coach.
- WA State U/18's Academy Assistant Coach.
Kimberley Spirit U/19's Assistant Coach - Leigh Hislop
Leigh is a great communicator and will play an important role in the U/19's program this year. Leigh has played football in the South West Football League and West Kimberley Football League but there is no doubt the U/19's players will be most eager to learn how he carved out a admirable 78 game career for Swan Districts Football Club in the WAFL (1999 - 2007).
Kununurra Regional Development Hub Head Coach - Zainel Bin Busu Snr
The U/16's program involves 5 Regional Development Hub's across the Kimberley. Zainel Bin Busu Snr has been appointed Head Coach of the Kununurra Regional Hub. He is taking over from Deon Cox who will stay involved with the team but in an off-field capacity while he also commits to his other Garnduwa obligations. Zainel is passionate about youth football, can effectively connect with youth, has a positive coaching philosophy and is excited to work with the young talented footballers in Kununurra (also includes Warmun and Wyndham players).
Broome Regional Development Hub Head Coach - Nathan Smith
Nathan Smith will take on the Head Coach role for Broome's Regional Development Hub (which is also open to players from Bidyadanga and Peninsula communities) in 2018. Nathan is taking over from Matt Sear who did a tremendous job developing players on the field in his 2 years with the program. Nathan has experience with WAFL Development Programs in Perth and is a Level 2 AFL Accredited Coach. Nathan's coaching philosophy involves creating an open learning environment which allows players to develop at their individual rates while having fun.
Ian Brown retains his Head Coach role with the Fitzroy Valley Regional Development Hub (U/16's) and both Derby and Halls Creek's Regional Hub's are still without coaches.
