Garnduwa in partnership with Redcross, Broome Youth & Families Hub (BYFH) and PCYC teamed up to organise a fantastic cultural youth leadership camp for 16 youth aged 14-17yrs from throughout the Kullarri region.

Everyone camped in tents at Gumbanan Bush Camp just outside of One Arm Point Community and had an eventful three days getting to know each other, preparing dinner on the first night in a Masterchef Challenge, participating in a basketball tournament with ICEA, learning about country, culture and career pathway opportunities with the Bardi Jawi Rangers and finishing off the trip with a morning of beach games and talking about healthy communities with Fairgame.

Participants spent a full day with the Bardi Jawi Rangers kicking it off with Bundy Chaquebour on his tour which showed us human footprints from thousands of years ago followed by a presentation by the Bardi Jawi Rangers outlining what they do in their roles looking after country, giving everyone insight into Native Title, career opportunities, education and cultural awareness. The rest of the day was spent out at Numagkoon with Eddie James and the Rangers fishing, crabbing, diving, swimming and making spears. Although an extremely windy day, very enjoyable and we managed to catch some muddies and fish and, some of the young guns walked away with some freshly made spears.

Massive shout out to Frank and Maureen Davey for allowing us to camp at Gumbanan, KRCI, Bardi Jawi Rangers, Bundy Chaqebour, ICEA, Fairgame and our mates Redcross, BYFH and PCYC. Awesome bunch of kids and a camp I look forward to being involved with next year!
